Man Up

Man up. Grab your balls. Let's go.

Funny that there is no feminine equivalent. "Grab your ovaries" doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

Masculinity is fierce. Femininity is soft.

But what happens when us women look to be fierce and daring, especially in our careers? I would assert that we actually emulate males, and become more masculine in order to accomplish our goals.

Do you agree?

("Strut 2.0" deals with exactly this issue of how to be fierce and
feminine at the same time. The event is happening at my house in
Miami tomorrow at 7pm-10pm, and if you haven't RSVPed, the guest
list is closed. Email me direct if you RSVPed and haven't gotten
the event details)

  2. I usually agree entirely with your postings, but this one caused a little mental debate in my head.

Do women become more masculine in order to accomplish our goals?

What exactly do you mean by becoming more masculine? Are we more driven, ambitious, confident, assertive in order to achieve our goals? Because I don't find those traits neccessarily masculine; they're just strong traits.

Personally, I wear pretty girly clothes and killer heels to my office. I smile, act sweet. I'm sensitive. I'm emotional (I even teared up during my interview when talking about how much it meant to my family to be a first generation college graduate now interviewing to be a professor at the very school my dad walked by every day at 16 when he dropped out of high school to get a job). I behave distinctly feminine. But I'm still kicking ass. I don't think we have to adopt masculine traits to get the job done.

But then again, I am part of an artistic (cinema) faculty. I imagine that if I was in finance or, say, a professor in an MBA program, I probably wouldn't ever consider baking treats to bring in to the office. :-)

  4. ROFLOL.... I have POP tooo!! I Luv ya anonymous, ya really made me totally crack up!! You are right Power of the P*&s# is really Killer to Men...LoL I had just never heard it like that. Thanks, I Luv It!! and I'll use it too. ;)

Anyway getting back to Balls... I believe Chief Badass meant it in regards to us women not Wuussing Out, when in fact we needed to take a stand on an issue. A Strong Stand!

I agree with Kristyn above that one may be feminine, delicate, pretty in pink, so to speak...But I'm sure if she was adamant on a particular issue & felt she needed to take a stand, that 'pink' would flare into Flaming Fussia (is that the equivalent of Hot Pink? It just sounded more dramatic the other way lol) Anyway, I believe that's what her post was reffering to, having the fortitude.

I recall one time in my early 20's (I'm 47 now) I was the Regional Benefits Manager (3 states on the west coast) for a large corp & I was called into the VP's office to clarify some reports. Now I knew MY Report was correct, no doubt. I stood my ground, backed up my research with facts & indeed someone else's report was incorrect thus throwing mine off. When I left the VP's office, hours later, an older local manager (woman) took me aside and told me... "You have Brass Balls Hun!" I must have looked perplexed since I had never heard that term before in my 20's & she replied "No One has ever stood up to that Old Geaser, I've seen little girls like you walk in there and come out crying. Not You. Congrats!" ;) I had an AHA moment!! I will never forget it. This Astute woman was what they (the old geaser) called "an Old Broad" she'd been around several times over, had been with the company 20 years & had seen it all. She Was Actually Giving Me a Compliment!! She used male Lingo.

Think about it... Lots of Business terminology is based on male sports. If ya make a Great easy sale, it's a Slam Dunk (basketball). If you are performing as expected, you are Up-To-Par(golf). If your boss's wife or his partners like you, or you closed a good deal, you Hit A Home Run (baseball). You get the hints now don't you??

Sooooo, suffice to say that if You don't Wuuss Out-Cry like a bumbling idiot-choke in the crunch... When You Need to Defend Your Position, Idea, Integrity, etc... Then you my sweets Have Brass Balls!!! Be Proud Of Them!! xoxo

    Thanks Jess, yet Again!! ;)
