The Homework

Regardless of whether you're coming to my private gathering in Miami next week, I invite you to do the homework assignment.

THE ASSIGNMENT:
1. Fill in the blank: "I'm a Badass Business Woman because _______"
2. Write it down.
3. Write down at least one sentence. At most one page.

WHY? We are taught not to brag about ourselves. We are taught to be humble, careful, modest, and self-effacing. We tone down our talents to avoid being called "cocky" or "arrogant."

But in fact we are gifted, amazing, accomplished, and passionate...filled with light that we are dying to shine on the world. The homework assignment is designed as a catalyst to make you proud of your badass self!

I did the homework. It wasn't easy. I'll tell you more about it in person next week. We'll be working on it further at the event, but you need to have at least one sentence written down when you walk through the door.

PS - The event is now CLOSED at 67 RSVP due to the capacity of my house.

  1. I'm a Badass Business Woman because I face my fears so I pursue and achieve my life passions. One fear that I dealt with was surviving on September 11 in year 2001 in New York. I feared that I did not know what tomorrow would bring so I kept my mind busy by working long 18 hour days for months. I got so tired from not getting enough daily rest that my quality of work was being jeopardized. I took a three week vacation to visit my parents in Ecuador to enjoy their presence and to rest. I realized that I had a second chance to live so I started focusing my mind again on my life passions. I started selling international shawls and donated 10% to 100% to charity while working full-time in corporate America. My office colleagues were my best customers. I learned that each fear story I deal with helps me deal with all fears that may arise in the future. The mind is so powerful. It is so important to continuously feed our brain with healthy things by nourishing your mind, body and spirit. Life work balance helps you obtain clarity so you can pursue and achieve all personal and professional passions.

  2. I'm a Badass Business Woman because I do not give up, no matter what. Right now, I'm battling a "landlord" who keeps trying to bully me into paying rent even though he lost the place to foreclosure back in June, and was trying to hide the fact from me instead of allowing me to save up to move out before the bank comes with the padlocks. It's all good. In the grand scheme of things, this is only a minor bump. Tonight, my office is @ the local Starbucks. While my daughter is finishing her homework at the table next to mine, I'm getting some work done for a client. (Okay, I took a break to do my Badass homework, but after this, I'm back to work, I promise.) ;-)

  3. Lara’s HOMEWORK

I'm a Badass Business Woman because I persevere.

To paraphrase Ghandi, I’m being the change I want to see in the world. This means I persevere in all aspects of my life. It doesn’t matter if I’m making eggs or facilitating a workshop for 600 hundred people, I show up and follow-through. This means that sometime I sweat and my makeup runs before a shindig. So what? I’m there.

I’ve been described as intense. Um. Okay. I’ve also found that intense people LIKE other intense people. To Jessica’s point, I surround myself with the people who appreciate what I have and move away from those who don’t. Perhaps it is the Universe that propels me to excavate all matters and ask those thought-provoking questions other people stray from. I can say honest things compassionately today. Each of these takes perseverance. It even takes perseverance to not take yourself too serious (Rule 72).

How does anyone continue to persevere with the ‘trials and tribulations’? I call it ***neon.*** The words ‘spirit’, ‘heart’ or ‘passion’ just don’t seem to explain what I’m talking about. A person’s neon is their element, unique in frequency. Every human being has their natural dose but they can add to it, brighten it, channel it. Research the element and it will reveal that while neon is very common element in the universe, it is rare on Earth. That’s because it’s hiding inside each and every one of us, inert, until we do something with it.

So I’m taking my neon with me wherever I go. I flash it, mold it, or throw it. The only I don’t do is: sit on it.

  4. I am a Badass Business Woman because I don't accept "no" for an answer. I can accomplish anything that I set my mind to and no one can stand in my way.
I love that I am outgoing, outspoken, and that I carry around a big, bright smile with an infectious laugh to accompany it. You can see the badass in my walk, hear it in my talk, and smell its sweet scent before I even enter the room. I kick ass at just being me!
It doesn’t matter how many obstacles may come my way or how many doors seem to not open, my determination and pure will power keeps me focused on the task at hand. I am strong, I am smart, and I can get through anything.
I am a badass because I will share my strength with anyone who needs it. I am great at listening and communicating. I am able to give and not expect to get anything in return. I am able to be a friend with no strings attached, and I am able to commit. I am loyal, honest, and real.
I am a badass by my own standards and no one else’s. I don’t need anyone to validate who I am or what I believe. I get to determine my path in life and I dictate how my journey will end.
I am a badass because I never stop. I always find a way to get things done. I may do it differently than you would like, but that’s just the way I roll. I love the FACT that I’m a Badass Business Woman, what about you?!
If you think I’m bad now, just wait until December. I’ll be fresh out of school and ready to land a badass job and that’ll make me that much more of a Badass Business Woman…super bad! Being bad feels sooo damn good!

  7. I'm a Badass Business Woman because perseverance is my first name. Through all that i have been through, and all i am going through- I DONT QUIT! Because i love to share, even if the favor isn't returned, because i am a women of my word, because I am multi talented. Not afraid to go against the grain and a true friend and person of my word- which is getting harder and harder to find these now a days.

I have survived many harsh circumstances in life and still i rise, i have put myself through school, received my Bachelors of Science degree, started to get back into my art, and continue doing my graphic design (freelance/contract), building my art, raising a 17 month old baby while maintaing a philanthropic character.

I choose the road less traveled and try to appreciate the ride. I love being creative.
Internet marketing, creating spaces and places to gather different groups of people together.

  8. I'm a Badass Businesswoman because I am determined to make a difference in the world by being the best ME I can be.

That means everyday I'm willing to do business better because I learned something new.
That means I'm willing to be called on my own bullshit.
That means I'm willing to put my ego aside and ask for help.
That means I'm willing to be responsible for myself, but not hold myself back with guilt.

And that I'm willing to do all this, while creating films and doing performances that matter, to open people's hearts and minds to the good that is really, right now, available to everyone, everywhere.

I'm a Badass Businesswoman because I teach others how to do this through public speaking courses-- and use that money to produce films that matter. I use my life to transform the world.

You can talk to me at http://www.beyondtheluckybreak.com.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to express this.
